15th CYPRUS INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
PRESS RELEASE – November 17, 2020
4th Day – Wednesday 18/11/2020
American Film Day
Free entrance at K-Cineplex Nicosia Prime
The 15th Cyprus International Film Festival began last Sunday on November 15 with screenings of Greek and Cypriot films with the film representatives personally appearing and interacting with the audience at K-Cineplex Nicosia Prime.
On Wednesday November 18, the American Films Day will be held with free entrance from 7pm to 10pm at K-Cineplex Nicosia Prime. The event is sponsored by the American Embassy in Nicosia.
As the Festival's programme is divided to 50% films made by women directors and/or producers and 50% films made by male directors, the documentaries to be screened come from a female and a male first shown filmmakers and highlight the diversity and inclusion and sex trafficking:
1. United we sing, directed by Dan Petracca, 2019, 75'
United We Sing is the story of what happened when two choirs sang together, but it is also the story of how people from different worlds—America and Kenya, rich and poor, black and white—came to understand one another through music, and of how empowering others is the best way to drive real, sustainable change. This is a story that the world needs to hear, especially now.
2. The New Abolitionists - Christina Zorich, USA, 2020, 98'35''
The film follows four NGOs throughout Southeast Asia as they fight to affect change and end human sex trafficking. The Director states: With this film, I set out to not only expose the causation of trafficking but to reveal practical solutions. My hope is that following these brave abolitionists and their organizations will inspire others to join the fight in whatever way they can—small or large.
The Cyprus International Film Festival is supported by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism in Cyprus, the Municipality of Nicosia, the National Machinery for Women's Rights (NMWR) and the US Em-bassy in Nicosia. The Hospitality Sponsor is Τhe Landmark Nicosia.
